The summer stage was built in 1950 by the project of engineer Baltazar Dulic, who found the most acoustic location in the heart of the Great Fairy Tale Park, with a hundred-year-old pines behind as a backdrop, made for classic performances and opera.
This stage was built of untreated natural yellow stone from Rakovac, Fruska Gora. The stone blends in perfectly with nature, giving the viewers an idyllic, open-air atmosphere. The summer stage was inaugurated with the opera “The Bride Sold” on June 30, 1950.
A year later, a sculpture of goddess Talia, patron saint and muse of theatrical art was built at the entrance. The stage was built as a set design for classical performances and opera, with a stone background and two towers on the side, so that different types of repertoire can be played with ease, without additional equipment.
The 1,000-seat theater is so crowded and so cozy that it can be enjoyed even when there is no show. The most famous event being held here is the European Film Festival, every year in July.
